Teach algorithms to high schoolers in Ethiopia this summer, all expenses paid (July 2nd to August 3rd)
If you are interested in teaching at AddisCoder this summer, you should apply soon, as they are in the process of interviewing/deciding on who to take as TAs.
AddisCoder (addiscoder.com) is a free intensive 4-week summer program
in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia introducing high schoolers to programming and
algorithms. Over 150 students have completed the program, and alumni
have gone on to study at MIT, Harvard, Princeton, Columbia, Brown, and
many other top institutions. They have also gone on to work both as
interns and full-time software engineers at software engineering
companies such as Facebook, Google, Microsoft, and Oracle. A few
alumni from the first offering of the course are now pursuing their
PhDs in computer science or mathematics. (See addiscoder.com/#alumni
for blurbs on some alumni).
AddisCoder will be offered again in 2018 with over 240 high school
students and some local college students (previous iterations each had
less than 85 participants). The college students will serve as lab
assistants who will learn the ins and outs of the course, in the hope
that they will be inspired to run their own afterschool activities in
their home cities even after the summer is over.
AddisCoder 2018 is looking for teaching assistants (see
addiscoder.com/#apply). We have funding to cover flights, room and
board, and daily expenses such as food and local transportation.
Please apply if interested! The course runs July 2nd to August 3rd (5
weeks). The first week will only include the college students, and the
remaining 4 will include both the college students and high schoolers.
If you have any questions, please e-mail the organizers of the course
at addiscoder-admin@seas.harvard.edu.
